Method, a New Zealand company specializing in bin manufacturing, stated they will include at least 50% recycled materials into the production of their products. The company manufactures bins designed for the workplace and sells them around the globe, stating they believe in the importance of a circular economy. Even though using 50% recycled materials may not seem much, the company believes it is an important step towards sustainability.
However, introducing recycled content into their products is not exactly an easy job, as some may believe, so the company is acting with thoughtful consideration, to ensure that the durability and quality of the products are not affected by the change. Their in-house teams are working round the clock to find a material that is consistent in quality and can be supplied constantly so that they can make the change permanent.
Many companies are making their products from recycled materials, but the problem is that many of those products can not be recycled again, which only delays their ending up in a landfill, without offering a real solution to the problem. This is why, besides the company using recycled materials in the manufacturing of their bins, they aim to make their products 100% recyclable as well, so that the process will be effective in the long-term.
Method’s project can be considered somehow poetic, as it does feel satisfying to see the waste collected by such bins be turned into new bins. This sends a powerful message to manufacturers all over the world, proving they can make a big difference.
